The neonatologists say the boys are doing very well! They still won't give us hope of bringing them home anytime soon, but I know they're close. Here's why:
Temp: Yesterday we put clothes on Levi and today Everett. They have to be able to maintain their temp before they can be released. They're off the warmers and just swaddled and wrapped and doing well.
No IV: Another benchmark to meet; the boys have been off IV fluids and nutrients for days. All of their calories come from milk. Plus this means less wires!
Breathing: Both are off the oximeter because their breathing is stable.
Eating: This is the last benchmark to work on. Currently the boys take about half of their feedings through the tube. They need to take 100% of their feedings from the bottle for a 24 hour period before being released. It's very normal for them to have difficulty in this area because it takes a lot of energy to eat. They're showing progress but there is more to be made.
They're having their hearing tests and car seat tests this week, too. In the meantime we're visiting the hospital twice daily to snuggle on the boys and feed them. Loving every minute and counting the moments until our house if full of baby cries and dirty diapers!
